Why Mojácar appeals to remote workers

Mojácar is a sunny coastal town in Almería, Andalucía, known for its relaxed pace, friendly community, and excellent weather. Increasingly popular with digital nomads and remote work professionals, it blends productivity and lifestyle: fast internet, peaceful workspaces, and beaches only steps away.

This guide helps you understand why Mojácar is an ideal remote-work base, how to get settled quickly, and what to expect from DeskSpace — the town’s dedicated coworking hub.

Section 2 — Why Work Remotely from Mojácar?

Mojácar offers something rare: a peaceful, inspiring coastal environment without the crowds of bigger nomad hotspots. It’s a place where you can focus deeply, meet friendly people, and enjoy nature — all within walking distance.

Highlights

  • 300+ days of sunshine
  • Strong café culture + affordable living
  • Beach, desert hikes, countryside — all nearby
  • Friendly international community

Section 3 — Coworking Options in Mojácar

Mojácar is a small coastal town — and with that comes limited coworking choice. But what it lacks in quantity, it makes up for in quality. DeskSpace is the only dedicated coworking venue in the area, offering a thoughtfully designed, professionally managed environment for freelancers, remote workers, and small business owners to focus, connect, and thrive.

Outside the busy summer months (July and August), Mojácar settles into its relaxed rhythm. During this time, you’ll find that many cafés welcome remote workers. Free Wi-Fi, friendly service, and an easygoing approach to long coffee sessions make them appealing places to spend an hour or two. It’s not unusual to see laptops open next to cortados or café con leche — particularly when the village returns to its calmer, community-focused pace.

That said, if you’ve come to Spain for the lifestyle but find yourself juggling paperwork at the apartment table. Or trying to work through spreadsheets whilst being interrupted in noisy cafés — we get it. We’ve been there too. DeskSpace exists for exactly those moments.

A dedicated workspace can make all the difference when you need to concentrate, meet clients, or simply tick things off your list. With fast internet, ergonomic seating, and a welcoming community of remote professionals, DeskSpace offers consistency and comfort — whether you’re here for a few days or a full season.

It’s the place to plug in, get things done, and feel part of something bigger.

Section 6 – Best Time of Year to Work From Mojácar

Although we live here, we think the best months for Digital Nomads and Remote Workers are Sep–June. Weather Spark will enable you to compare the weather where you are, to the weather in Mojácar. We get less rain than many many places, but there can still be days in Jan / Feb where it certainly feels like it rains non-stop. But we have a warm dry office in the colder months and air con for the warmer months.

It can get busier in the summer months of July and August, but the location of DeskSpace means there is normally parking fairly close.

Section 7 — Internet Speed & Reliability

Very important for nomads.
Mention:

  • Speed numbers
  • Fiber-backed reliability

Section 9 — Who Works Here?

Who Works Here?

DeskSpace welcomes a wide range of professionals — from longer term seasonal visitors to local entrepreneurs and holidaymakers who just need a few hours of focused time. What they all share is a desire to work with intention, in a space that supports productivity and connection.

Remote Workers

One of our first guests was an accountant from Sweden who returns to Mojácar each year after the summer rush. She wanted a workspace outside her apartment — somewhere to connect with other professionals and carve out clear headspace to get things done. DeskSpace gave her just that: a calm, professional environment with a sense of community.

Local Entrepreneurs

We’ve had local business owners use DeskSpace as a motivational boost — “When I pay for the day, I want to see results.” It’s a different vibe from trying to tackle admin at night with the TV on in the background.

Another entrepreneur popped in for a dose of inspiration and a bit of Canva support — sometimes, a fresh space and a friendly nudge are all you need. Here’s what she said ADD LINK

Holiday Makers

Even during holidays, work doesn’t always stop. The sports head of a London school joined us during a UK half term. With family and pool distractions at home, he needed a quiet space to focus. A few hours at DeskSpace helped him power through his tasks — then get back to enjoying Mojácar, the pool and his family.

Section 10 — Getting to Mojácar

Mojácar is tucked into the southeastern coast of Spain, in the province of Almería. It’s part of Andalucía — known for its whitewashed villages, flamenco culture, and Mediterranean charm. While it’s off the main tourist trail for most of the year, it’s well-connected for those who know where to look.

Airports

  • Almería Airport (LEI) is the closest — about 1 hour’s drive. It offers regular flights from Madrid, Barcelona, and some European cities.
  • Alicante Airport (ALC) is larger and about 2.5 hours away by car. It has more international connections, especially from northern Europe.

Bus Routes

  • From Almería, you can take a bus to Mojácar via ALSA, with stops in Vera and Garrucha.
  • From Alicante, buses run to Vera, where you can transfer to a local line or taxi.
  • Local buses connect Mojácar Pueblo and Mojácar Playa, making it easy to get around once you arrive.

Driving

  • Mojácar is accessible via the A-7 motorway, with exits near Vera and Los Gallardos.
  • Car rentals are available at both airports, and for hire locally. Driving offers the most flexibility — especially if you plan to explore nearby beaches, mountains, or villages.

Section 11 — Where to Stay: Mojácar Pueblo vs Playa

Mojácar offers two distinct vibes depending on where you stay — and both have their charm.

Mojácar Pueblo

Perched on the hillside, the Pueblo is the historic heart of Mojácar. Think narrow cobbled streets, whitewashed buildings, and stunning views of the coastline. It’s quieter, especially in the evenings, and ideal for those who want a peaceful, character-filled stay. You’ll find boutique rentals, charming guesthouses, and a handful of small hotels tucked into the village.

Best for: Writers, creatives, and anyone seeking inspiration or solitude. Great for short-term stays if you’re happy walking or driving down to the beach.

Mojácar Playa

The Playa runs along the coast and offers more modern accommodation options — from beachfront hotels to serviced apartments and short-term rentals. It’s flatter (although some sidestreets do go uphill), more walkable, and closer to cafés, restaurants, and coworking at DeskSpace. Outside of July and August, it’s relaxed and uncrowded, with plenty of places to work, swim, or unwind.

Best for: Remote workers, digital nomads, and families looking for easy access to amenities and the sea.

Nearby Hotels & Rentals

There are several well-rated options within walking distance of DeskSpace, including:

  • Family-run guesthouses with local charm:
  • Boutique hotels with sea views
  • Short-term apartments with WiFi and kitchen facilities

Section 12 — Local Work-Life Balance

One of the biggest perks of working remotely from Mojácar? You don’t have to wait for the weekend to enjoy life. Here, work and leisure blend effortlessly — whether you’re taking a beachside lunch break or starting your day with a sunrise run along the coast. There are groups who swim in the sea most of the year, beach walk, on the sand or along the paseo – a flat footpath running parallel to the sea. Or take your coffee, cortado, con leche or howevery you like it at a local chiringuito. Visit the pueblo for best sunset view or take a local hike.

Beach Lunches & Breezy Cafés

Step out of your workspace and into a chiringuito for a fresh seafood lunch with sea views. Mojácar’s cafés are relaxed and laptop-friendly (especially outside peak season), making it easy to switch up your work setting without missing a beat.

Sunrise Runs & Sunset Strolls

Early riser? The light here is magical. Start your day with a jog along the paseo or a quiet walk through the Pueblo’s winding streets. It’s the kind of routine that clears your head and sets the tone for a productive day.

Cycling & Outdoor Adventures

Mojácar is a dream for cyclists and nature lovers. From coastal rides to mountain climbs, there’s something for every level.

Section 13 — Day Trips

This short guide links to some of our blogs of days trips from Mojacar:

  • Near Nijar is a large natural crater where you can find Garnets in Almería.
  • If you’re in the Nijar area and like butterflies, check whether the Butterfly Farm is open (it doesn’t open on rainy days).
  • For wakeboarding or inflatables Lunar Cable Park is a great day out between May – October. There are also flat walks round the lake (ideal for strollers, wheelchair users).
  • There’s an eco community tucked in the hills behind Sorbas, but from there you can also walk to the source of the Río Aguas
  • Whether you’re naturally a night owl or just enjoy looking at the stars – take a look at our mini guide to the local Observatories near Mojacar
  • Not all year round – but there are times that you can Ski in Southern Spain
  • This is a bit of a work in progress – but has got a list of a few of the local towns that are worth a visit: Day Trips from Mojácar
  • Lake Negratin is on my wish list – although we haven’t been there yet – we’ve heard great things about it. We’ve found enough closer to home.

Section 14 — FAQs

What is coworking?
Think of it as a professional space where you can come to work. There are optional bookable desks, monitors and meeting areas. Everything is set up waiting for you to connect your IT. Included in the price is superfast WiFi, free tea and coffee. For many people it’s the ideal setup: an office with superfast internet, without the commitment of a long rental contract with additional utilities.

Why choose Mojácar for remote work?
Smaller, off the main beaten track but a great international community. Great weather for 300+ days per year means lots of options beyond the work day, whether cycling, hiking watersports or listening to live music.

Is Mojácar good for digital nomads?
Yes! If you’re looking for a slower pace of life but still with plenty of options both to do and to eat!

Can I book just for a day?
Yes, you can book just for a couple of hours if you want – although the price per day works out much cheaper if you commit to a full month.

Where can I park? Is it free parking?
Usually you can park right outside. But if all the parking is full – there are plenty of spaces opposite. All free.

How much is lunch?
Today (a random Thursday in November 2025) my wife and I had tapas at the restaurant next door to DeskSpace. Alongside a café con leche each, we had 4 tapas between us. The total cost was €11.40.

Is Mojácar safe? We have found it totally safe. But I do lock doors and hopefully stay alert. Sadly I’ve heard there are some opportunistic thieves. One scam seems to be a lady targeting / hugging jewellery wearing men in supermarket car parks (to remove the item). Another scam targetting ladies seems to be a where someone dropping change near a car in a supermarket carpark. This targets the ladies handbag on a front seat. Stay cautious! But I think it’s safer than many places.
